With the increasing hype all over the news of steroid usage, steroid usage among high school students is reaching a tremendous high. From Barry Bonds to Chris Benoit, stars are being spotlighted for using steroids, and it’s having a negative impact on high school athletes, who are unable to see past the “power” that steroids gives these amazing athletes. In a high school athletes’ eyes, they only see the strength, muscles and power they can have by using steroids to help them succeed in high school sports.

How the Community Pushes Use of Steroids in High School Sports

High school students in sports that use steroids, only see the competitive edge that they can achieve. By using anabolic steroids, the user will typically obtain larger muscles, which in most high school sports, is necessary. There has been an increase in community involvement in high school sports, that pushes the high school athletes to want to do better; they almost feel a pressure to have to do better. Along with the pressure from the community, comes pressure from the students’ own parents. Any high school student wants to impress their parents and the best way to achieve this in their eyes is to use anabolic steroids.

The Side Effects of Using Steroids in High School Sports

The side effects that any teen would endure if using steroids is worse than an adult. There is the possible organ damage, along with infertility, hair loss, severe acne and violent behavior. The use of steroids in high school also poses the threat of stunted growth.

Steroids in High School Sports is the Easy Way Out

What steroids do for high school students is to help them not have to work as hard as they normally would. In their eyes, they don’t have to train as hard, as the steroids help their muscles get bigger without all of the working out. Hopefully trainers and coaches at the high school level are working with their high school students to show them the importance of working out and training the correct way to achieve the desired results rather than taking the easy way out.
